and me

/u/Paris

Hug is stuck in his coding room so he will probably not be joining us.

Brief background. It's hard to get people on all at once so I'm going to go forward and get things thing going. If you have any questions you want to direct to us and get our perceptive this is a great time to do that. This post will be open for a couple days and then locked forever!
You can ask us anything, not just about moderatorship.

Edit: and oh how could I possibly forget /u/CocaineBrain. My oversight.

If you really think about it, this is history actively being made.

What is your favorite food

/u/Paris · N/A votes · 29th December, 2020 - 04:01 · Link

I'm a big fan of pizza. Any kind of pizza. Lots of cheese with a salted baguette on the side. I'm not one for seafood and escargot.

Just about anything my wife makes homemade. I will say wheat bread. We eat an entire loaf as soon as it comes out of the oven.

smoked food. Currently brisket. But a properly cooked rack of ribs will stop me in my tracks.

Definitely pasta. And none of that whole grain stuff either.

So Paris is from Paris with a love of the Italian flatbread?

/u/Paris · N/A votes · 29th December, 2020 - 04:57 · Link

I'm in love with fresh bread. Don't give me that pale tasting Italian flatbread. I need the fluffiness to just encompass my mouth in delectable goodness.

Homemade bread is the best for sure

Brother, you're barking up the right tree. Brisket is from the fucking heavens.

I got a kick ass 16lb Australian wagyu 2 months ago at $11 a lb. It is the best thing I have ever cooked. And i haven't been cooking briskets all that long. Pork on the other hand is a couple of decades.

I bet the smoke rings on that wagyu were majestic as it melted in your mouth....fap fap fap fap

Are any of the multitude of servers you use self hosted or are they all rented? Also, what programming language is used server side?

/u/Paris · N/A votes · 29th December, 2020 - 05:07 · Link

When you control an illegal site you should never self host. There was a few markets hug took down in the past which was self hosted. Possibly the most stupid thing I have ever saw in my life. Everything is rented under real names provided by fullz. All connections to the servers go over Tor. If the servers get compromised we just burn and move to another one. All onionbalance instances are separated from the main cluster so even if the site gets hacked the main onion service key is still safe and everything can be brought up. If Tor has a massive exploit and even the onionbalance server is found we can verify new addresses with our local PGP Key. Server side on dread is mostly PHP, but there is lots of python, some golang, and bash scripts we use for filters and maintenance. It's a very complicated setup and we are working in the background to help simplify a lot of it and make it more efficient.

You mention that the main sites private key will be safe, but you never included a scenario if your cluster manager was compromised. If the cluster manager was compromised how would you prevent the service key from being leaked? Furthermore a server being compromised would leak the sites source code which would be just as detrimental, What is stopping you from moving to a peer run solution?
