Dread need an internal escrow system

by /u/azrael13 · 0 votes · 20th June, 2023 11:38

There are a lot of people who connect with buyers and sellers here on dread but sadly some of them end up getting scammed.
I would like to see some kind of escrow system managed by trusted mods in the future, this way not only users can carry out their business in a more safe space but also can be some kind of revenue source for dread.
Is it that far from reality? how popular or useful would that kind of service be? Dont you agree?

Dread is not a market. We never will be. We don't have any of the tools in place to solve disputes, or deal with any of the other issues that come with doing escrow. Use a market or multisig.

Use a market or multisig. Do you think that multisig is scam safe? I mean 2/3 multisig needs minimum two keys to spend. But, what if the market and the vendor are the same person!?

I don't think MS is full proof but neither is traditional escrow. How does a user know that the vendor isn't on market staff? Or if we accepted escrow how do you know we didn't take a bribe from a scammer? Nothing is perfect, but if someone is going to scam, they are probably not going to be willing to do a MS deal.

You are able to do 2/2 multisig though. It still requires the buyer to not spite the vendor and burn those coins out of existence.

This is just my personal opinion so I could be wrong here. I totally understand your idea but I don't believe it is practical for dread for many reasons. First of all, escrow doesn't mean youre 100% safe. You'll have disputes, whcih means dread will have to deal with that, which means they need to hire more people, bla bla bla. Its just a bunch of unnesesary stress that they need to deal with. Plus (at least in my opinion) it somewhat damages dread's brand for many reasons. Dread would no longer be a place for people to communicate freely. And you know damn well that more of the comments, posts, DM's, etc.. are going to be some form of advertising spam from a random account. Also, if its just an escrow system and nothing else, how would admins be able to realistically moderate that? Who's to say that someone isn't buying CP through dread? Or other truly terrible stuff? So now, dread becomes known for being a good place for horrible people to conduct transactions for really messed up stuff. That is a very bad thing for dread. Also, dread becomes a higher target against LE. If they support the transaction of illegal stuff, a government will want to take them down. Whereas right now, yes dread has a lot of people talking and sharing info about illegal stuff but thats it. It could also be argued that its not dread's fault, its the individual. Its actually in LE's best interest to keep dread up because it'll be easier to track and monitor people who are doing illegal stuff. Hell, for all we know, dread is actually owned by the government and Paris or HugBunter are just CIA agents lol

I think so too but I don't think dread wants to be associated with dirty deals on the dark web.

Genuinely interested in how this would turn out lol. But markets exist for a reason. I think dread is already having a hard time with DoS. They have enough on their plate. This would give the feds even more reason to take dread down, too. I think dread is meant to be unbiased and this would give it an economic incentive, through fees, to stifle the discussion of other markets on this website...
